JUST BE THERE

Don't compare your life to others,
you have no idea what their journey is all about.
I read this somewhere the other day and it instantly struck me. There are times when it becomes easy for me to compare my life with the way others live their own life. As a result, most of the time the decisions I make become disastrous.

There are times, too, when someone comes to me for advice, I expect them to do what I would do. Shame on me. Do I really know what they're going through? How do I understand them, anyway? How do I comprehend their pains, enough for me to tell them what to do?

I want to learn how to be there for others. BE THERE. I guess it will be more than enough to let them know I am carrying their cross with them, just like Simon of Cyrene, when he carried the cross for Jesus after he fell.

My favorite lines from this song speak it so well.

"You think the only people who are people
are the people who look and think like you.
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
you'll learn things you never knew, you never knew..."

It's good that you are aware of it now. I read somewhere emphasizing that we don't say 'I understand you' coz that will never happen. You said it, 'BE THERE.' And let me affirm it for you, 'be there,' just be there, Anne. :)
